A woman reportedly went missing after she jumped into the Jamuna River fearing interrogation by police at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj district on Thursday night.
The missing woman is Mazeda Begum, a plaintiff of a case filed for her son’s disappearance, according to police.
Salma Begum, daughter-in-law of Mazeda, said police came to their house at Kaizuri Bazar area at about 12.30am and detained her father and mother-in-laws. "I heard from people that my mother-in-law jumped into the river fearing police interrogation and missing till then,” she added.
Shahjadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman said Mazeda, a resident of Balsha Bari Islampur village at Ullapara upazila, is living in Kaizuri Bazar area for about four months before lodging a case with Ullapara Police Station for his son Shaheen’s disappearance.
On information that Shaheen is also communicating with them here, police went to the house and at one stage of the initial interrogation Mazeda jumped into the river near the house. She was missing till then.
Mazeda’s husband Hasen Mollah is under police custody now.
Ullapara Police Station OC Dipak Kumar Das said Mazeda’s son is a drug peddler. She lodged a false disappearance case to put others in trouble, said the OC.
Ullapara Police Station members on Thursday night went to the rented house in Kaizuri Bazar area with help of Shahjadpur police. Fearing to face the police interrogation Mazeda jumped into the river, he added.
