Flood-hit people's sufferings mount in Kurigram, no food, no water
Six children and an elderly man have died after drowning in the flood water during the last 24 hours as the situation has worsened further in Kurigram district.
About 1.5 lakh people in the district have been facing immense sufferings due to lack of shelter, relief goods, and medical treatment over the last seven days.
According to the local WDB office, the Brahmaputra River is flowing 53cm above the danger level at Chilmari point and 48cm at Nun Khawa point while Dharla 29cm at Setu point.
Char people's sufferings mount as there are no symptoms of receding flood water in their areas. Besides, they have been facing the shortage of pure drinking water and cooked food. Though the administration has begun relief distribution but it is insufficient compared to the demand.
Besides, they are in trouble for want of the fodder for their cattle.
Kurigram deputy commissioner Md Rezaul Karim said they have allocated 302 metric tons of rice and dry food worth Tk 36.68 lakh for flood-hit people.
They also sought more 100 metric tons of rice and Tk 1 crore for dry food to high officials, he added.
