Burnt Manikganj woman dies at DMCH


A housewife, who set herself on fire after pouring kerosene in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Shakti Ganguli, 35, wife of Shangkar Ganguli of Jhitka Basudpur village in the upazila, succumbed to her injuries at the burn unit of DMCH around 2am on Wednesday.

Quoting locals, Harirampur Police Station OC Mueed Choudhuri said Shakti's mother-in-law often rebuked her and tortured her mentally and physically. Shangkar also tortured her sometimes following his mother.
On Tuesday afternoon, as the mother-in-law rebuked her, she poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire.

Shakti was first taken to Munnu Medical College Hospital and, later, to the burn unit of DMCH.

The OC said they did not received any complaint yet as the deceased’s parents are dead and she only had a mentally challenged brother.
