Fire Service divers retrieved a body from the River Buriganga on Tuesday afternoon, raising the death toll from Monday's launch capsize to 33.

The body was recovered around 12:45pm, confirmed the Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brig Gen Sajjad Hossain.

Rescue operation resumed at 10am on Tuesday after the recovery of 32 bodies on Monday following capsize of 'Morning Bird' in the Buriganga River near Shyambazar.

Meanwhile, the sunken launch was towed to the bank from the mid river.

BIWTA ship 'Duronto' towed the vessel that turned upside down  around 12 noon as the rescue vessel with crane could not come, said BIWTA Chairman Comodore Golam Sadik.

Divers are now conducting search operation inside the launch.

Munshiganj-bound launch 'Morning Bird' with over 100 passengers on board capsized in the river Buriganga at Sadarghat after being hit by another vessel 'Moyur-2' around 9:33am on Monday.
