Vast land flooded in Netrakona

Vast lands in Netrakona district have been flooded due to rise of water level in all major rivers caused by heavy downpour and onrush of hilly waters for last couple of days.

According to the Water development Board (WDB), water level in Kangsha, Mogra, Someshwari, Ubdakhali and Dhonu rivers have started rising although the rivers are still flowing bellow the danger mark.

Breaches developed in Kalikabor cross dam in Gaokandia union under Durgapur upazila, submerging seedbeds, roads and ponds.

Low-lying areas of kolmakanda and Durgapur union were inundated by flood waters.

WDB deputy divisional engineer Rahidul Hossain Khan said Kalikabor cross dam is under threat. "We've sent a letter to the higher authorities to take effective measures."

Kolmakanda agriculture officer M Frooque Ahmed said the district experienced 55 mm rainfall on Monday. Aman seedbeds on 14 acres have been submerged by gushing hilly waters, he added.

Netrakona-2 lawmaker and State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasrusaid officials concerned have been asked to take steps so that seedbeds could not be damaged.
