14 killed in Buriganga launch capsize

Divers recovered 14 bodies who went missing after a launch capsized in the River Buriganga on Monday morning.

Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters duty officer Rojina Akhter confirmed the news around 11:30am.

The incident took place near Dhaka's Shyambazar around 10:am, she said.

Lunch 'Morning Bird' with at least 50 passengers was heading towards Sadarghat from Munshiganj when it collided with Moyur-2 vessel from Chandpur, said BIWTA transport inspector Md Selim.

Some managed to swim ashore but many others are still missing. 

BIWTA and the Coast Guard joined the rescue operation with the divers in the rescue operation.
