Senior Defense Secy Mohsin dies of coronavirus

Senior Defense Secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury died of COVID-19 at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Monday morning. He was 57.

He breathed his last around 9:30 at the CMH during tretament, Selina Haque, additional secretary of the Ministry, confirmed.

Mohsin Chowdhury was admitted to the CMH on May 29 after testing positive for the deadly virus and was shifted to the intensive care unit on June 6 following deterioration of his condition.

Earlier, he has been promoted to senior secretary of the government while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mohsin Chowdhury.

The defense secretary, hailed from Cumilla, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
