Expats allowed to leave Malaysia for emergencies, medical reasons

Expatriates wishing to leave Malaysia can leave the country in cases of emergencies or for medical reasons, says Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The defence minister made the remark on Saturday after a special ministerial meeting on the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

After leaving the country, the expatriates cannot enter Malaysia again during the period of Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) as it would be allowed for only one-way journey.

The meeting also came to a decision of hiring foreign citizens for working as crew members on domestic fishing vessels to ensure sufficient fish supply in the country.
The foreign citizens, wishing to work as crew members on domestic fishing vessels, must first obtain permission to leave their countries from their respective governments.

They also need to apply for a temporary employment pass from the Immigration Department as well as undergo Covid-19 screening and the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the employers have to provide accommodation cost for the foreign crew.

For foreigners wishing to leave the country, they have to obtain the travel documents from their respective embassies.

To implement the ongoing Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and prevent the illegal entry of immigrants, a task force comprising police, armed forces, Maritime Enforcement Agency and Border Security Agency has been formed.

He said police have arrested 53 individuals for violating the RMCO and standard operating procedure (SOP) while eight of them were remanded.
