Many beds in Covid-19 hospitals remain empty

Many beds in Covid-19 dedicated hospitals have remained vacant as most of the patients prefer taking treatment at home, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
There are 14,610 general beds and 379 ICU beds for coronavirus infected patients at all divisions across the country. But only 4,691 of the general beds and 183 of the ICU beds are now occupied, Professor Dr Nasima Sultan, Additional Director General (Admn) of the DGHS, said on Friday.
While reading out the daily bulletin on the coronavirus situation prevailing in the country, she said there are 16 Covid-19 dedicated hospitals in Dhaka city and one in Dhaka district.
The number of general beds and ICU beds for Covid-19 patients are 6,773 and 180 respectively in the Dhaka city, but only 2,375 of the general beds and 97 ICU beds are now occupied.
Professor Nasima Sultana said 530 Covid-19 patients got admitted and 483 patients were released in the past 24 hours ending 8:00am on Friday.
"Any patient could get admitted easily, but they also need to contact the control room to know which hospitals have the available beds," she said.
Professor Nasima Sultana said that there are 10,240 oxygen cylinders, 80 high flow nasal canola and 55 oxygen concentrators are now at the government Covid-19 hospitals across the country.
