Bangladesh Railway will set up tickets counter in different spot in the capital and other divisional headquarters with an aim to make the railways modern, popular and profitable.

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said this in Parliament on Tuesday, responding to a starred question from opposition Whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga.

Earlier, the sitting of the budget session (8th session) of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad resumed around 11am with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Replying to Ranga's question, the Minister said, "Decision has already been taken to set up various ticket counters in both the capital and divisional headquarters to make the railway sector modern, popular and profitable."

He also informed that initially, ticket counters would be set up at 11 spots in Dhaka city.

"Meanwhile, tickets of inter-district trains are being issued online for maintaining social distancing due to COVID-19 pandemic. The BR has a plan to issue the 100 percent tickets online in next steps," the minister told the House.

Steps will be taken to set up ticket counters for other trains apart from the inter-district once the situation comes to normal, Sujan said.

Besides, the matter of introducing counter-to-counter station minibus  will also be considered, he added.
