Malaysia dismisses news of legalisation of illegals as 'fake'

Recently, a rumor has been spread on social media including some media that a project to legalise illegal immigrants detained in detention camps in Malaysia has been taken up or is being legalised.

The news of such re-hiring or re-legalisation has been dismissed as fake by the Malaysian Home Ministry.  The country's Kementrian Dalam Negeri (KDN) confirmed this information in a statement on the verified Facebook of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday, as well as the Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Immigration Malaysia).

The fact is that the issue of legalisation of illegal migrants is still in the preliminary stages of discussion.

Last week through the media and social media
A report has gone viral that illegal immigrants staying in Malaysia will be legalised or a legalisation project has been finalised. All such reports have been dismissed as fake by the concerned Ministry.

In an interview with a Malaysian daily a few days ago, responding to question, Interior Minister Datuk Seri Hamza Zainuddin said, “We would discuss with the relevant departments whether those detained illegally in detention camps could be given legitimacy. And by commenting on this comment, the concerned people think that it has been misrepresented or misinterpreted in some media."

Hedayetul Islam Mandal, counselor (Labor II) of the Bangladesh embassy in Malaysia, said that the issue of legalisation of illegal immigrants in Malaysia has not been finalised yet.

He further said that if anyone spreads rumors on social media, there is no need to talk.
