Ventilator shortage at RMCH



There are only 15 ventilator machines in Rajshahi Medical Hospital during the current pandemic coronavirus situation while 13 other ICUs with ventilator facilities at other hospitals in Rajshahi district.

Physicians said only 15 ICUs equipped with ventilators are available at the hospital which is not enough as the coronavirus cases is rising day by day.

According to the Department of Health, doctors are having trouble combating the ongoing pandemic situation caused by the novel coronavirus as there are 28 ventilation support in district.
The coronavirus patients having respiratory problems are at high risk of death because of this problem.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Sadar MP Fazle Hossain Badsha informed the matter to Health Ministry asking for 15 more ventilators.

Rajshahi Medical College vice president Bulbul Hasan said around five per cent of the virus infected patients need ventilator support. 

Without proper ventilator facilities, it is difficult to provide proper treatment to the patients, he added.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Enamul Haque said there were 10 ventilators at RMCH earlier where the current number is 15.
