Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday warned that the government would take tougher action if the cases of coronavirus infection increase in the second phase due to unawareness.
"If the virus infections will continue to rise in the second phase because of people's unawareness, the government will take stern action," he said in an agreement signing ceremony of Northern Metro-rail Route-5 between Mass Rapid Transit Company Ltd and Japanese Nippon Koei Co, Ltd through video conferencing from his official residence.
Calling upon the residents in the areas which were put under fresh lockdown for growing number of coronavirus cases, the minister said, "The decion was taken for our welfare."
"And, if the situation deteriorates in the lockdown-free areas for not following health guidlines, and a second wave of infections occur, then the government will go tough," he added.
Meanwhile, the Awami League general secretary also said a pro-people and welfare oriented national budget for fiscal 2020-’21 will be placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) tomorrow (Thursday), giving the highest priority to the life and livelihood of the people, says BSS.
Before finalizing the budget, Obaidul Quader said the government has reviewed the opinions of experts and economists in coordination with the party manifestoes.
Rejecting a statement made by BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the government usually does not consider experts’ opinions before budget presentation, the AL leader said, “It is absolutely wrong.”
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina takes any decision after considering the opinions of all concerned, adding that she (the PM) usually takes a decision after consulting with all inside the government and the party as well.
Quader reiterated that only the ruling Awami League is used to practice democracy in the country.
The minister informed that the construction work of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s most preferred Padma Bridge is proceeding by following all the health guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
