Panchagarh mosques get cash assistance from PM's relief fund

A total of 295 mosques in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district on Saturday received cash assistance worth Tk 14,75,000 from the Prime Minister relief fund to meet expenses during the ongoing crisis caused by the novel coronavirus.

Maintaining social distancing, the cash assistance programme was held in the field of Tentulia Govt Pilot Model High School in the morning.

Under the joint initiatives of the upazila administration and Islamic Foundation, a cheque of Tk 5,000 was distributed to president or secretary of each mosque.

Presided over by UNO Sohag Chandra Saha, Upazila Parishad chairman Kazi Mahmudur Rahman Dablu was present there as chief guest.

As the devotees cannot attend mosque and make donation due to coronavirus, the income of mosques has gone down significantly, causing untold sufferings for the imams and muezzins. Taking the daily expenses of mosques into account, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken initiatives of providing cash assistance to imams at each mosque from her relief fund.
