Virus cases cross 50,000, deaths 700 in country


Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh crossed 50,000 on Tuesday with 2,911 confirmed cases.

During the period, 37 more causalities from the virus is recorded, taking the total number to 709, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), confirmed the matter in the daily online bulletin on the COVID-19 situation in the afternoon.

Of the deceased, 33 were male and four were female.

The positive cases reached 52,445 in the country till today.
A total of 12,708 samples were tested at 52 labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

Some 523 patients made recovery from the virus, Dr Nasima informed. With these, 11,120 people, so far, have recovered from the disease.

Bangladesh confirmed its first COVID-19 cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

Over 6.27 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus globally and 375,711 have died.
