The Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB) has demanded quick action against the culprits investigating the torture on Exim Bank managing director Mohammad Haider Ali Mia after firing and detaining him.
In a statement sent to the media on Saturday, the ABB expressed its deep concern about a report on the abduction and attempt to murder of Exim Bank's Managing Director and additional managing director.
Mentioning that the incident will impact negatively both home and abroad, the ABB demanded fair investigation and punishment of the culprits involved.
According to a case filed by the Exim Bank authorities with Gulshan Police Station, two directors of Sikder Group allegedly tried to kill Exim Bank's MD Mohammad Haider Ali Mia and Additional MD Mohammad Firoz Hossain by shooting them for refusing to estimate the value of the directors' mortgaged property at an exaggerated level for approving a loan.
The directors implicated in the case were Sikder Group's chairman Zainal Huq Sikder's sons--Ron Huq Sikder, managing director of the group and his brother Dipu Huq Sikder. The accused brothers left the country on May 25 last by an air ambulance following the filling of the case amid coronavirus pandemic.
There are allegations that tortured the two senior bank officials confining them at a house in Banani and forced them to sign a white paper.
