Wife's genital burnt with hot rod in Joypurhat, husband held

A husband along with his elder brother have been arrested on charge of burning the body parts including genital of his newly married wife with a hot iron rod by tying her up with a tree at Sree Kristapur Schoolpara Mahalla in Akkelpur Municipal area of Joypurhat district.

It is learnt that the woman became the victim of torture as the food she cooked appeared tasteless to her husband.
Locals rescued the critically injured woman and admitted her to a hospital.

Later, police arrested the victim's husband and his elder brother after the girl's father filed a case against his son-in-law and three others of his family.

Police and locals said Shakil Ahmed, son of Abdus Salam of Sree Kristapur Schoolpara Mahalla in Akkelpur Municipal area, married to Khadija Khatun, daughter of Ayub Ali of village Santahar Namapota under Adamdighi upazila in Bogura district, three years ago. Since the marriage, the husband has been torturing his wife for dowry. The helpless and poor father Ayub Ali tried his best to fulfil his son-in-laws demands. In spite of it, torture on Khadija has continued.

In the evening of Wednesday (May 27), Shakil returned home from work and sat for having dinner. Showing the excuse that the food cooked by his wife was tasteless, Shakil started beating Khadija mercilessly. At one stage, he dragged her out of the house and tied her up with lychee tree locking the main gate of the house.

Afterward, he touched different parts of her body including genital heating an iron rod. Though initially nobody came forward hearing the shouting and screaming of Khadija, later the locals rescued her breaking the main gate and rushed her to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex. As her condition deteriorated there, she was referred to Naogaon Hospital.

Later, Khadija's father Ayub Ali filed a case with Akkelpur Police Station accusing his son-in-law, his elder brother, his mother and father.

Registering the case, police went to Shakil's house and arrested him from there. Police also arrested Shakil's elder brother for torturing the woman.
