The eye of the cyclone Amphan has entered the coasline adjacent to the Sundarbans in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district.
The Met Office said the main portion of the cyclone Amphan will hit Bangladesh coast at 11:00pm, which may cause widespread damage and destruction.
Satkhira office of the Bangladesh Metereological Department (BMD) said on Wednesday evening that all the rivers in Satkhira started swelling after the eye of the cyclone entered. The waters in all the rivers have increased by five to ten feet.
Shyamnagar upazila chairman SM Ataul Huq Dolon said more than one lakh inhabitants of Shyamnagar upazila have taken shelters in the cyclone centres. But, the most fearsome thing is that 40 points of the beribandh have become risky. Among them, Chalkhola at Padmapukur, Lebubunia at Gabura, Datinakhali at Burigoalini and Alam Sheikh's House at Ramzan Nagar are facing serious risks of collapse. Major disaster will happen if these beribandhs are collapsed.
The district administration and Navy have shifted the fishermen's trawlers and fishing boats earlier.
