70,000 isolated char people shifted to shelter centres in Bhola

Bhola district administration has already evacuated 70,000 people from 21 isolated chars in the district and shifted them to shelter centres as cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ heading towards Bangladesh.

The administration with joint initiatives of Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard and police members have begun the evacuation process to shift 3 lakh char residents of Charfassion, Manpura, Tazumuddin and Daulatkhan upazilas to shelter centres from Tuesday morning.

People of shelter centres are getting food items for three times from the administration.

The government has allocated 200 metric tonnes of rice, Tk 7 lakh in cash assistance, baby foods and 3,000 packets of dry food items.

Deputy Commissioner said about 1.5 lakh fishermen have returned to safe shelters before the evening.

Besides, 10,000 volunteers including members of Red Crescent Societ have remained alert to cope with the upcoming disasters.
