A reserved woman ward councilor has allegedly violated social distancing while distributing relief among poor in Rajshahi city amid the coronavirus outbreak.

However, when journalists asked her about defying the government rules in distributing relief, she ignored it saying "write whatever you like."
The incident took place at Ward Councilor (No.3,5,6) Ayesha Khatun Nadira’s residence at Bhatapara on Tuesday morning.

About 300 poor people thronged the councilor’s house premises through a narrow lane to get relief in the morning ignoring the coronavirus infection risks.

All of them were at the resident premises of Ward No.3. The councilor arranged the relief distribution programme at her house, instead of other designated areas.

Other ward councilors and locals expressed dissatisfaction for violating the government rules while distributing relief by the councilor.

About the violation of social distancing rule councilor Ayesha Khatun Nadira told journalists that she would distribute relief the ways she choose. Write whatever you like, she added.

Nadira further said, “It is my choice. I will distribute relief what way I like.”

No.6 ward councilor Nuruzzaman Tuku said, “As a ward councilor Nadira surely knows the government rules. It's a matter of sorrow if she violates the rules willingly.”

Rajpara Police Station officer-in-charge Shahadat Hossain said he was not aware of the relief distribution programme.

“I was informed about the matter lately. Had they informed us, we would have surely assisted them in maintaining social distancing,” he said.
