Officials working at different embassies and foreign missions in Dhaka and their families are leaving for their respective countries in the wake of coronavirus pandemic around the globe.
As many as 364 foreign nationals left Dhaka during the last 24 hours ending at 6:00am today (Thursday).
Besides, 139 Bhutanese citizens left Dhaka for Thimpu by a special flight of Druk Air on Thursday morning.
Earlier on Wednesday night, 225 Malaysian High Commission officials and their families left for Kuala Lumpur.
It is learnt that the foreign embassy and mission officials and their families decided to leave Dhaka as the Bangladesh government has imposed a 10-day lockdown asking its citizens not to go outside of homes without any emergency work. Most of those officials were working at the High Commission of Malaysia and the Embassy of Bhutan in Dhaka.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said the Malaysian citizens left Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur by a special flight of Malaysian Airlines on Wednesday night. There were 225 Malaysian citizens including the officials and employees working at the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka.
On the other hand, 139 Bhutanese citizens left Dhaka for Thimphu by two special aircraft of Druk Air on Thursday morning. Apart from the diplomats working at the Embassy of Bhutan in Dhaka, there were Bhutanese students studying in Bangladesh on boards the two aircraft.
Five people have so far died being infected with coronavirus in Bangladesh, while 44 people infected with the virus. Of them, 11 have returned homes after their recovery.
