A prayer for the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail has been sent to the Ministry of Law seeking opinion, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday.
He was responding to a query of a journalist after inaugurating a special booth for Hajj passengers at the Department of Immigration and Passport at the city's Agargaon in the afternoon.
The Home Minister said: "The issue of Begum Khaleda Zia's release must have to be resolved through the judiciary. The prayer submitted by her family has been sent to the Ministry of Law for opinion. They will take the next steps."
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "Her (Khaleda Zia) family submitted a prayer for her release from jail. The Home Ministry doesn't have the power to release her. She will have to move to court for her release. We've sent her prayer to the Ministry of Law after receiving it."
The Home Minister reiterated that the issue of Khaleda Zia's release must be resolved through judiciary. Nothing will happen beyond the court.
It may be mentioned that Khaleda Zia's younger brother Shamim Iskander submitted a prayer to the government on Wednesday seeking "better treatment of Khaleda Zia."
In his prayer, Shamim Iskander also mentioned that "BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is very sick. She needs better treatment."
