A young man reportedly committed suicide by self-injecting a drug mixture in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday night as his family did not give consent for his fourth marriage.
Deceased Sahnaj Nayeem, 22, was the son of Jewel Mia of Pakati village under Barobaria union in the upazila.
Local sources said rickshaw-puller Nayeem had married for three times. He had been requesting the family for allowing him to marry again.
But, his family members rebuked him over the issue. As a sequel, an altercation took place between Nayeem and his mother on Thursday evening.
Later, Nayeem injected himself with drugs and fell sick.
The neighbours rescued Nayeem and took him to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex from where he was refereed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition. Later, he died at the MMCH.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue.
Gafargaon Police Station officer in-charge Anukul Sarker confirmed the matter.
