Bangabanhdu BPL 2019
Who to be eliminated: Starry Dhaka or consistent Chattogram?
Khulna, Rajshahi desperate to berth in final
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led Dhaka Platoon will face Mahmudullah's Chattogram Challengers in the eliminator of the Bangabandhu BPL today afternoon at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur while Khulna Tigers will take on Rajshahi Royals in the 1st qualifier of the tournament in another game of the day at the same venue.
Defeating side of the eliminator will end its journey in the event while winning side will be able to play the 2nd qualifier on January 15. Winners of the 1st qualifier conversely, will go to the final directly, which is slated for on January 17. Losers by the way, will get a second chance to keep them in the race. They will lock the horns with the winning team of the eliminators in the 2nd qualifier on Wednesday.
Khulna however, crushed Dhaka's skyscraper of 205 runs in the ultimate group clash of the tournament on Saturday after Nazmul Hossain Shanto's unbeaten ton. DP thereby, were bound to play the eliminators. Chattogram on the other hand, had been occupying the top spot on the table throughout the tournament's life-line, where compelled to play the eliminators losing the last group match to Rajshahi on Friday. CCs were as many as 16 points like Rajshahi Royals and Khulna Tigers but it was poor run rate that leg Chattogram down at three.
Dhaka possibly will have to play without their regular skipper Mashrafe, who had 14 stitches in his left hand during their high scoring affair with Khulna on Saturday. Their overseas cogs Shahid Afridi returned to Pakistan sustaining injury and his compatriot Wahab Riaz backed to home for national duties. So, an acid Test has been waiting for DPs. CCs in the contrary, have got fully fit set-up, who are waiting to get the best shot from Caribbean giant Chris Gayle.
The dusk's game of the day will surely be a 'diamond cuts diamond' battle. All-rounder poured Rajshahi and flying Khulna will engage at SBNCS eyeing the final. Andre Russell gets a mighty unit to captain. Afif Hossain and Liton Das pair the most successful opening brace of the tournament. Pakistan recruitment Shoeb Malik, captain himself, Alok Kapali and Ravi Boapra all made a very strong batting line up for RRs. Fresh blood Mohammad Irfan joining with Abu Jayed Rahi, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Taijul Islam to make a potent bowling unit for them as well.
Mushfiqur Rahim's Khulna in contrast, seemed to have the bravest batting line-up. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the only local centurion of the tournament going on, pairs with windy Mehedi Miraz to open the innings. Rilee Rossowu, Mushique, Robbie Frylink, Saif Hasan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz all are the in-form batsmen while Mohammad Amir, Shahidul Islam, Shafiul Islam, Aminul Biplob and Frylink all have been on fire with the ball.
