A man was killed in a village clash over playing carom in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat on Tuesday morning.

Deceased Shohid Sheikh, 40, was a resident of Charpara village in the upazila.

Family sources said Shohid and his co-villager Khokon Sheikh locked into an altercation around 11:00am over playing carom.

As a sequel to the quarrel, a clash took place between the supporters of Shahid and Khokon that left Shohid and his younger brother Sayeed critically injured.

The injured were taken to Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Shohid dead.

Injured Sayeed was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition.

Additional Superintendent of Bagerhat police Mahfuz Afzal said the body was sent to local hospital morgue.

A police hunt is on to detain the perpetrators, he added.
