Ex-CJ Mahmudul Amin dies

Former Chief Justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury has passed away at the age of 82 due to old age complications (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).

The ex-Chief Justice breathed his last at his Dhanmondi residence in the afternoon on Sunday.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held on Supreme Court premises at 10.30 am tomorrow in the city.
Later, his body will be taken to Sylhet to allow the people of all walks of life to pay their last tributes to him where 2nd namaz-e-janaza will also be held after Esha prayers.

Later, he will be laid to eternal rest at the graveyard near the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine.

Law Minister Anisul Huq and Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mahmudul Amin.

Mahmudul Amin is survived by two daughters, a son and a host of relatives and admirers.

He was appointed as the chief justice on March 1 in 2001 and retired from his post on June 17 in 2002.

He was involved in law profession since 1963.

Born on June 18 in 1937, Choudhury discharged his duty as justice in High Court Division from 1987 to 2002.
