To mark the 43rd founding anniversary of the cultural organisation 'Wrishiz Shilpi Goshti', an award giving ceremony and cultural programme was held on November 23 at Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city. On the occasion, 'Wrishiz Padak' was conferred to the country's renowned figures of art and culture. At the event, Life Time Achievement Award has been conferred to the renowned writer, columnist and journalist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury. Other awardees are---novelist and editor of Daily Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haq Milan, popular actor Mahmud Sazzad, singer Kumar Bishwajit and actress Kohinoor Akhter Suchanda.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid MP was present as the chief guest at the award giving ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by noted folk singer Fakir Alamgir. Secretary of Ministry of Information Abdul Malek and director of 'Sammilita Sangskritik Jote' Golam Quddus were present as special guests.  
A cultural programme, dedicated to the legendary singers--Ustad Matiul Haque Khan and Subir Nandi, was held after the award giving ceremony. Artistes from different cultural organisations namely 'Udichi', 'Kranti', 'Satyen Sen Shilpigoshti', 'Wrishiz Shilpi Goshti', 'Swabhumi' and 'Anondon' performed at the cultural programme.  
Abdul Gaffar Choudhury is a Bangladeshi-born British writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet. He is perhaps best known for writing the lyrics to "Amar Bhaier R�kte Rangano" which is the most widely celebrated song commemorating the Bengali Language Movement. Choudhury has received numerous awards including Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1967, Ekushey Padak, UNESCO literary Award, Bangabandhu Award, Shanghati Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, Sadhinota Padak in 2009. In the same year, The Daily Ittefaq honoured him with Manik Miah Padak. In 2014, he was awarded the PIB-Sohel Samad Memorial Award.

Imdadul Haq Milan gets the award

Imdadul Haq Milan is a novelist and editor of the daily newspaper Kaler Kantho. He is the recipient of Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1992 and Ekushey Padak in 2019. Born in Bikrampur, Milan spent his childhood with his maternal grandmother. He then moved to Gendaria in Dhaka. He wrote his first story Bondhu in 1973. Bangla Academy's Uttaradhikar magazine published his first novel Jabojjibon. Milan graduated from Jagannath College.
Mahmud Sajjad is an actor, known for Songsar (1968), Priyojon (1996) and Swami Streer Wada (2009). He first acted in Zahir Raihan directed movie Sangsar. Bobita also acted for first time in that movie. Later Sajjad also acted in many films. But he was engaged with acting in TV and theatre plays. When he was studying in college he acted in three theatre plays. After finishing his university study he acted in many plays on stage under the banner of Natyachakro. His acted first TV serial was Sokal Sondhya.

Kumar Bishwajit receives the award

Kumar Bishwajit is a singer and composer. He received Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer two times for the films Swami Streer Wada (2009) and Ma Amar Chokher Moni (2011). He also got the Best Music Composer award for Swami Streer Wada. Bishwajit was born in 1963, to Sadhan Ranjan Dey and Sova Rani Dey in Sitakunda, Chittagong. He started his music career by performing on a radio show in 1977. He passed childhood in Chittagong district and took primary education from Chittagong. He used to come and go to Dhaka for his career. He was first associated with the band Rhythm-77 for 2 years. Then he founded his own band "Feelings" in 1979. He performed his first television show on BTV in 1980.
Kohinoor Akhter, known by her stage name Shuchanda is a film actress and director. She started her career in the mid 1960s and acted in about 100 movies. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for the film Hajar Bachhor Dhore (2005). Shuchanda debuted as an actor with the film Kagojer Nouka (1966), directed by Subhash Dutta. As an actor she won a Nigar Award from Pakistan in 1987 for her role in the film Hum Ek Hain. In 1985, Shuchanda debuted as a film producer and produced Teen Kanya from her production house "Suchanda Cholochitra". Shuchanda debuted as a director with the film Bidesh Jatra in 1998.
