Road crashes claim 224 lives during Eid journey


As many as 224 people have lost their lives and 866 received injuries in some 203 road accidents during Eid-ul-Azha journyes, according to a passengers' welfare body.

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity secretary general Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the disclosure at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday.

The report was made on basis of news published on 41 national and regional dailies and 11 online news portals, Mozammel said.
In his written statement, Mozammel said a total of 253 people have been killed and 908 injured in 244 accidents in road, rail, and waterways in Eid-ul-Azha journeys of total 12 days from August 6 to August 17.

He also said road accidents declined by 6.4 percent, number of deaths decrease 6.25 percent and number of injured 1.5 percent during this Eid journeys than that of previous year.
