Road crashes kill 24, injure 77 in 9 dists
At least 24 people were killed and 77 others injured in road accidents in nine districts on Thursday.
The accidents took place within a span of nine hours from 6am to 3pm today.
In Feni, eight picnickers were killed and 20 others injured in a tragic road accident in Sadar upazila of Feni this morning.
Three of the deceased were identified as Shahadat, 30, hailed from Feni, Sujan from Dhaka, and Azhar 45.
A Cox's Bazar-bound bus from Dhaka, carrying picnickers, hit hard a roadside tree in front of Tibbatia College at Lemua around 5:45am after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving six dead on the scene and 21 others injured, said Feni Highway Police Station SI Kawsar Rahman.
The injured were admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital where another one died.
Among the wounded, seven were shifted to Dhaka for better treatmment, the SI said, adding Azhar died on way to Dhaka.
In Sirajganj, two people were killed and 20 others injured in a collision among four buses in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station officer in-charge Syed Shahid Alam said a bus of 'Five Star Pariabahan' running on the wrong side collided head-on with another bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' in Konabari area around 2:30 pm.
At the same time, two buses of 'Ena Paribahan' and 'Dipjal Paribahan' coming also from the wrong side hit the 'Five Star Paribahan' bus from behind, leaving its driver and a female passenger of 'Hanif Paribahan' dead on the spot and 20 people injured.
On information, fire service and civil defense personnel rescued the injured and sent them to the Sirajganj 250-bed Hospital, said Abdul Hamim, an official Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Sation.
In Kishoreganj, three people were killed and four others injured when a truck smashed an auto-rickshaw in Katiadi upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Tofazzal and Umar Faruque, residents of Itna upazila, and Jamal Uddin, of Niamatpur village of Karimganj upazila.
A truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Bhitipara area on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab highway this afternoon after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving seven auto-rickshaw passengers critically injured, said Katiadi Police Station officer in-charge Abu Shama Mohammad Iqbal Hayat.
Among the wounded, four were taken to Kishoreganj 250-Bed Sadar Hospital and the rest three to Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared the trio dead.
Police, however, seized the killer truck but its driver managed to flee the scene.
In Faridpur, three people were killed and at least 32 others injured in a collision between two buses in Bhanga upazila on Thursday morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as the driver of a bus Rowshan Fakir, 35, hailed from Nagarkanda upazila, and passenger Meera Kundu, 60, from Rajbari Sadar upazila.
Bhanga Highway Police Station Ataur Rahman said a Saidpur-bound bus of 'Tuhin Paribahan' collided head-on with a local bus at Nowapara on the Dhaka-Barishal highway, leaving Rowshan and Meera dead on the spot and 33 others injured.
Among the wounded, 14 were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where third one succumbed to his injuries.
The rest are now undergoing treatment at Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
In Bhola, a minor boy was killed in a road accident in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Deceased Parvej, 6, was the son of Md Shahabuddin, a resident of Barrister Kanchari area under Purbo Elisha union in the upazila.
Locals said a three-wheeler, locally known as Mahindra, hit Parvej in Barrister Kanchari Bazar area around 12:30pm, leaving him critically injured.
The boy was declared dead at Bhola Sadar Hospital.
In Tangail, a college student killed in a road accident in Sakhipur upazila in the morning.
Deceased Ishtiaq Ahmed, 17, was a student of Government Mujib College. He was the son of Shakil Azad, a resident of ward-3 under Sakhipur Municipality.
In Gopalganj, A biker was killed and his wife injured when a private car hit his motorcycle at Gopalpur in Kashiani upazila in the afternoon.
Deceased Tuhin Mollah, 32, was the son of Ashraf Mollah of Ghosherchar Uttarpara village in Sadar upazila.
Kashiani Police Station sub-inspector Prokash Sarker confirm the matter.
Tuhin's wife Sathi Begum was admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital.
In Mymensingh, a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Imadpur in Phulpur upazla in the afternoon, leaving two killed.
The deceased are: Zayed,6, son of Abdul Malek of Sherpur district, and Sirajul Islam,45, of Shambhuganj.
In Cox's Bazar, an old man was ran over by a bus in Fakirbazar area on the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway.
Deceased Mohammad Kalu,62, was a resident of Purba Napitkhali village in Sadar upazila.
Police, however, detained the bus driver.
