Sexual harassment of students protested

RAJSHAHI, July 9: Students of Education and Research Institute (IER) of Rajshahi University (RU) demanded punishment for the teacher who is accused of sexually harassing two female students.
In this connection, they held an agitation on Shabas Bangladesh premises of the RU on Monday noon.
Last week, two students of IER department filed two separate complaints of sexual harassment with RU authorities against their teacher Assistant Professor Bishnu Kumar Adhikary.
Atifa Haque Shefa, a third year student of the institute, said the investigation committee has not yet submitted report to the institute.
She also said they want a fair investigation.
More than 30 students of the institute participated in the programme.
It is to be noted that on June 25 and 27 two students filed written complaints against the institute's teacher Bishnu Kumar Adhikary of sexually harassing students. Later, on July 2, the teacher was exempted from all the academic activities of the institute.
Asked about the investigation, IER Director Abul Hossain Chowdhury said, a meeting was held in this connection on Saturday last where verification of the allegations was discussed.
Student Advisor Professor Laila Arjuman Banu said, "The institute has formed a three-member inquiry committee.
