JnU students start fast unto death


Some students of Jagannath University (JnU) started a hunger strike on Sunday morning to press home for their seven-point demand.

Thirteen students from different departments began the fast-unto-death in front of Shaheed Minar on the campus around 10:00am.

The students alleged that the university Vice Chancellor (VC) on occasions assured them of fulfilling their demands, but did not take any steps.

"Now, we don't believe any verbal assurance by the university authorities. If they do not give us written assurance over fulfilling our demands, we'll continue the strike," said one of the students.

The demands are:
1. Reducing food costs at canteen raising subsidiaries by next week and improving food quality
2. Running double shift of bus by a month
3. Holding Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JNUCSU) by next four months
4. Completing female students' hall by next two months
5. Recruiting 70 percent teachers from the university and appointing eligible persons through fair recruitment test relaxing CGPA condition in application
6. Starting the works on second JnU campus within a short time and
7. Raising budget allocation for research by minimizing condition.
