Road crashes leave 6 dead in 3 dists
At least six people, including two women, were killed in three road accidents in Habiganj, Sirajganj and Kushtia on Friday.
In Habiganj, two people were killed and two others injured as a truck hit a roadside shop in Dakbanglow area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Madhabpur upazila of the district in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Ayub Ali, 35, a resident of Madhobpur municipality and owner of the shop, and Jonayed Mia, 28, of Bijoynagar upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a stone-laden truck hit a roadside shop in the area as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the two dead on the spot and injuring two others.
The bodies were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Police seized the truck. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shaistaganj Highway Thana Liakot Hossain confirmed the incident. A case was filed in this connection.
In Sirajganj, two men were killed and three others injured in two road accidents in Sadar upazila on Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Shahadat Hossain, 32, helper of a pickup van, and Raihan Ali, 32, both residents of Gurudaspur upazila.
The first accident took place at Kodda intersection when Shahadat's pickup van overturned, killing him on the spot around 11:00am, said Syed Shahid Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station.
Raihan was killed on the spot after being run over by a pickup van at Raninagar village, said Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumurul Highway Police Station.
In Kushtia, two women were killed in road accidents in Daulatpur upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Usha, 14. She hailed from Mothurapur area. Johura Khatun, 40, hailed from Chunia Mor village under the upazila. -Agencies
