BAGERHAT, Feb 6: Friend of Bangladesh Father Marino Regan's 95th birth anniversary was observed in Mongla Upazila of the district on Tuesday. Marino Regan, an Italian had a great contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh. On his birth anniversary, the teachers of Saint Paul's High School placed wreath on Catholic Church in Sholabania of the upazila in the morning. Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleq was present as chief guest in the programme. Father Regan Marino was born in 1925 in Italy. He came to Bangladesh in January, 1953. He had been living in Sholabania Village for 63 years. He set up 17 educational institutions in the village.
For his laudable contribution to the people of Bangladesh during the Liberation War and post-war time and his literary contributions, Father Marino Regan had received honorary citizenship of Bangladesh in 2008.
