Macbeth by English playwright William Shakespeare is considered to be one of the most widely staged plays in the history of dramatics. The play was translated for Bangladeshi readers by Syed Shamsul Haq. A Bangladeshi stage adaptation of the play was premiered last year on October 9 by Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka at the Nat Mandal of the university. Directed by Professor Dr Israfil Shaheen the drama has returned to the same stage after taking break for a couple of months. Back-to-back repeated shows of the drama will be held today and tomorrow at 6.30pm.

The good news is that the drama will be presented in the Bharat Rong Maha Uthshob-2019. The drama festival organised by New Delhi's National School of Drama or NDC will start from February 10. Macbeth will be staged on the very opening day at 4pm at New Delhi's Sree Ram Kendra and then again on February 12 at Rachi of Jharkhand.
About the drama Israfil Shaheen's statement says, "Shakespeare's message crossing time in the political-psychological drama is vivid in our present shadowy-murderous times, in our country, in the earth and in our very lives. What a man does and what he holds as values collide and this collision according to the drama is the fate of human beings."
The drama will also be staged at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from February 2 to 4 everyday at 7pm before flying to New Delhi.
