BNP on Monday rejected the result of Sunday’s national election and demanded reelection.

"The election was held creating an unprecedented war-like situation spreading panic and establishing a reign of terror through state-sponsored terrorism by using all the state machinery from judiciary to administration and law enforcement agencies," said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, UNB reports.

"We can call it a vote robbery, the way election was held through state-sponsored terrorism. We're completely rejecting this election and its results. We demand the election be cancelled and reelection be held immediately under a non-party government," he said.

The BNP leader came up with their party's formal reaction to the national election after a meeting of the party's standing committee members at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

BNP standing committee members sat in the emergency meeting at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.

The meeting started at 4pm to analyse the election results and finalise their future course of action.

As his attention was drawn to CEC's remarks rejecting the Oikyafront's demand of reelection, Fakhrul said, "The CEC is the most biased person and his activities have already become questionable. The way he talks, he only reflects the government's version."

They will carry out a legal fight alongside a movement to realise their demand for reelection. They will announce their action programmes in due time, the senior BNP leader said.

In Sunday's parliamentary elections, BNP bagged only five seats while its alliance partner Gano Forum two.
