The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday postponed voting at 22 out of 40,051 polling centres across the country due to violence. Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed claimed that the 11th general elections were held amid a festive mood, barring some stray incidents. The EC secretary said stray incidents took place in some constituencies and legal actions will be taken against those involved after investigation. He made the announcement two hours after the 11th parliamentary election closed. Votes from approximately 0.05 percent of polling centres were suspended. The BNP, on the other hand, alleged that polling centres were occupied across the country, their agents were forced out of the centres and fraud was committed. As many as 40,051 polling centres were set up in 299 constituencies across the country.
