In loving memory of Humayun Faridi
Humayun Faridi, a humorous human being and legendary actor, was born on May 29, 1952. This article pays tribute to this iconic star on his birthday.
His name bears a remarkable significance in the field of acting. He acted in hundreds of movies, dramas and theatres. He used to love acting so passionately that, in hearty conversation, he used to utter, "I do not have anything in my mind except acting."
He was born and brought up in Dhaka. After his schooling, he was admitted into Dhaka University in 1971. Due to Liberation War of Bangladesh he left university and participated in the war. Later, he was graduated from Jahangirnagar University where he was in contact with Natyacharya, Selim Al Deen. He was inspired by Selim Al Deen greatly in his university days.
He joined the Dhaka Theatre during his university days which established him as a versatile performer and drama organiser. It was one of the turning points of his career. His famous theatre performances include Kittonkhola, Keramot Mongol, Montasir Fantasy and so on.
He made his debut on television through acting in Nil Nakshar Shondhanay in 1982. Some of his famous telefilms are Kothao Keu Nei, Chandrograsto, Dui Bhai, Mohuar Mon and many more.
In '90s, he started acting in big screen where he performed successfully and won the hearts of millions. He added new dimensions to the art of acting. His decision to work in negative roles proved how brave he was! Kankata Ramjan, a famous antagonist role performed by Humayan Faridi in Shongshoptak, still appeals to the drama lovers. Palabi Kothai, Bichar Hobe, Bachelor, Anandoasru, Meherjan, etc. were some of his famous movies.
The acting of Faridi was extraordinary and natural, it used to make the audiences laugh, cry, angry and what not. He had the ability to merge himself with the characters which made the audiences emotional and touchy. He had the power to attract the audiences till the end of drama or movie.
He got married to Minu in '80s. They had a daughter named Devjani. His marriage with his wife lasted for four years. Later on, he married Shuborna Mustafa after divorcing his first wife. His marriage with Shuborna did not last as well.
Many rumours and controversies were there regarding his personal life. However, his acting career was full of appreciation and success.
He got many awards in his lifetime and also won national award for his acting in the movie Matritto in 2004.
He suffered from chronic diseases. On February 13, 2013 this actor left the world leaving all his fans and well-wishers heart-broken. His immense contribution in the world of acting made him a star of the country.
