5 burnt as oil tanker catches fire in Barisal

Barisal: Five workers suffered burn injuries as an engine room of an oil tanker blasted on the bank of Kirtankhola River on Saturday night.

Md Faruk Hossain, assistant director of Barisal Fire Service Station, said the engine of ‘MT Anchorage’ caught fire when it blasted around 9pm during unloading fuel at the depot of Jamuna Oil Company Ltd, leaving five injured.

On information, five firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame within an hour.

The vessel was carrying nine lakh liters of petrol and diesel.

Injured Sahidul Islam, Nazmul Ahsan, Sufian and Sundor Ali were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
