Normalcy has returned to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as interns called off their strike on Sunday night.
On Monday, general students of Dhaka Medical College formed a human chain outside the hospital, demanding punishment to a patient's relatives who assaulted a female doctor on Saturday.
A duty doctor in the Medicine Department, requesting anonymity, said the interns have returned to work.
He said, "The interns called off their strike as the DMCH authorities assured them of increasing security for the female doctors at the hospital."
On Saturday, interns went on strike, protesting attack on a female doctor in the Department of Paediatrics by a patient's relatives. They also closed the main gate of the emergency department for around half an hour.
A senior nurse at DMCH said work abstention by the interns mounted sufferings of patients at the hospital.
Khaja Abdul Gofur, deputy director of DMCH, said the interns withdrew the strike following assurance of taking necessary action against the person involved.
