New housing project on 4,000 acres soon
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) will jointly initiate a new housing project on around 4,000 acres of land in Dhaka city soon.
According to sources in the Housing and Public Works Ministry, interested buyers will be given flats instead of plots in the project.
The new project will be taken up to ensure housing facilities for the city dwellers on a minimum land. The authorities concerned have already started working on the new project.
Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain said the government now wants to save the country's farmlands to ensure food security and sufficient supply of foods to its citizens. Keeping it in mind, the government is planning to use a minimum land for housing project.
He said the NHA authority will construct buildings on the land provided by RAJUK and flats will be sold at a reasonable price, estimating construction costs of the buildings. Buyers will get facility to purchase the flats in installment and loan facilities will also be given to them, he said, adding that the project design will be similar to that of the housing projects of China.
According to the ministry's officials, RAJUK has now three housing projects in Dhaka. These are Purbachal, Uttara and Jhilmil projects. Allotments of all plots of the three projects have been completed.
RAJUK and the National Housing Authority are now jointly implementing the plan of constructing around 1 lakh flats. Construction of around 5,000 flats is underway while the rest will be constructed in phases in the city.
