Artist Najma gets int'l award
Renowned artist Najma Akther has got an international award in the 7th Lessedra International Painting and Mixed Media Competition recently.
Lessedra Art Gallery positioned in Sofia, Bulgaria arranged the competition.
Artists from around 46 countries took part in the photo exhibition. Eight artists from different countries were selected for the prizes. Of them Najma Akther got the second prize while Ivo Mrsnik of Slovenia was placed for the first prize.
The modern artist was born on February 14, 1959. She completed MFA from the Institute of Fine Arts, DU, she has exhibited works around the globe her expressive paintings, which mostly are acrylic on paper or canvas.
Originally a student of Oriental Arts, Najma Akther started experimenting with abstract visual language in 2003 and has since toured with her vibrant collection a number of places including UK, Germany, Malaysia while holding solo expos. She has already been a member of the jury of an international art expo in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The artist is also seving as an assistant professor of fine arts in the University Laboratory School and College. She used to write distinctive art reviews for reputed dailies before concentrating solely on her paintings.
Her works are in collections of a number of organisations including government offices, National Museum, Shilpakala Academy, banks and diplomatic missions, and private collectors at home and aboard.
