![]() One killed in Shyamoli building fire A 45-year-old man was killed in a fire that broke out at a 20-storey building in Shyamoli area of the capital on Thursday night. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. His body was recovered from the 19th floor of the 20-storey Rupayan Shelford building, said fire service director (Operation and Maintenance) Lt Col Mohammad Tazul Islam Chaudhury. Quoting witnesses, he said the fire originated at the 7th floor of the building around 11:30pm on Thursday. Being informed 13 units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire at around 2am on Friday. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately. According to Fire Service and Civil Defence, 23 people, including women and children, were rescued from the building. Multiple hospitals and diagnostic centres are housed on the first few floors. Witnesses said patients were brought out of the building soon after the fire broke out. NY |
