Additional district and sessions judge Lailatul Ferdous pronounced the verdict on Tuesday (March 21, 2023) in presence of the accused on the dock of the court, said public prosecutor Siddiqur Rahman. Those who were sentenced to death by hanging are: Madaripur Municipality's inhabitants Abdul Hye Howlader, 55, Abdul Huq Howlader, 58, Jahirul Howlader, 36, Rasel Howlader, 38, Raja Howlader, 50, Kalu Howlader, 55, Sobhan Howlader, 50, Tushar Sharif, 30, Yusuf Howlader, 40, Azizul Howlader, 48, Rahim Howlader, 52, Rezaul Howlader, 52, Shamim Howlader, 30, Ahad Howlader, 29, Dalil Uddin Howlader, 52, Olil Uddin Howlader, 55, Jasim Howlader, 38, Monir Howlader, 37, Sumon Sharif, 32, Sagar Sharif, 30, Hafizul Kazi, 38, Kalu Kazi, 42, and Alauddin Kazi, 30. The life-term convicts are Seken Howlader, 50, Ujjal Howlader, 42, Jamal Howlader, 48, Rubel Howlader, 32, Nurul Amin Howalder, 53 and Baki Billah Howlader, 58. The PP said there are no parents left by Rajib Sarder who hailed from Kalkini upazila. He lost his mother when he was a child. Then his father married another woman. Since then he lived at his maternal uncle's house at Harikumaria under Sadar upazila. They reared him up. The court also fined six of the life-term convicts Tk 50,000 each. In sequel to previous enmity, the accused hacked Rajib Sarder at Harikumaria at about 8:30am on September 1, 2012. The family members first rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and then to Dhaka. He died on his way in Rajbari. Later, being plaintiff, his maternal uncle Ali Howlader filed a murder case. Siddiqur Rahman said there were 36 accused in the case. Of them, 22 were present inside the court during the pronouncement of judgement. Three accused died while the trial of the case was going on. The PP termed the verdict as "a historic one," saying that the rivals had brutally and inhumanly murdered the nephew in sequel to their enmity with his maternal uncle.
