Ansar VDP member found dead in river in Cumilla

Police recovered the body of a member of Bangladesh Ansar-Village Defense Party (VDP) from the Gomoti River at Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district on Monday afternoon.

Deceased Someer Chandra Das, 40, was son of Rakhal Chandra Das, a resident of Chayfullakandi village under the upazila.
Soma Rani Das, the deceased's wife, said on Saturday evening, Dalim, a friend of the deceased, called him out from the house. She made a phone call to her husband at midnight as he didn't return home.

Dalim received the mobile phone at that time and said they are fine and Someer will return home soon.

Later, Dalim came back alone with Someer's mobile phone set. He told the deceased's wife that they were playing gamble on the bank of the river. "We jumped into the river assuming that police are approaching to us. Though all managed to swim ashore later but Someer went missing."

Muradnagar Police Station officer-in-charge Kamruzzaman Talukder said locals saw the body was floating in the river and informed police.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
