ARSA commander shot dead in Rohingya camp

A commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was shot to death by some miscreants in a Rohingya camp at Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Monday night.

The incident took place at C-3 block of Balukhali camp No-9 under Palongkhali union of the upazila at around 1 am.
The deceased was Nur Habib alias Dr Wakkas, 45, a resident of the camp.

APBN-8 Assistant Superintendent of police Faruq Ahmed said Nur Habib was a commander of ARSA and involved in many criminal activities.

"The killing might have committed over long-standing dispute and establishing supremacy" he said.

Quoting locals, Rohingyas Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said a group of 25-30 armed miscreants dragged Nur Habib out from his house on Monday midnight and fired bullet on him in front of Moulavi Easin shed.

After the firing, they confirmed his death by hacking him mercilessly.

He was taken to camp hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he said.

Legal steps are under process in this regard, the OC added.
