Man sentenced to death for killing wife over dowry in Satkhira MG Azam, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, delivered the verdict and acquitted four others from the case. The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Zahrul Haider. According to the case statement, the convict is Rabiul Islam, resident of Mehedibag municipality of Satkhira district, used to torture his wife Rabeya for dowry. As she refused to give him the demanded money, Rabiul strangled his wife to death on June 6, 2014. The victim's father Shahidul Islam then filed a case accusing five people, including his son-in-law, the next day. On June 8, 2014, Rabiul made a confessional statement under section 164 of the CrPC before a Judge Shimul Kumar Biswas. Investigation Officer of the case, Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station Tanvir Hosen on November 17, 2014 submitted a chargesheet against the five accused. After examining the documents, evidences and witness, the court sentenced Rabiul to death and acquitted four others from the case. NY |
