The students of Jahangirnagar University staged demonstration in front of the residence of university vice-chancellor on Thursday midnight to press home their four-point demand, including a safe campus.

They took position in front of the residence of JU VC Prof Dr Md Nurul Alam following a road crash on the campus on Thursday evening.

Campus sources said a first year student of the journalism and media studies department of JU is on life support after being hit by a bike and dragged under the bike on campus.

The incident took place near Maulana Bhasani Hall at 7:30 pm on Thursday.

The victim Jahid was going to "Gerua" near campus. The bike hit from behind and dragged him several yards. Ferdous Mahamud Neon of the philosophy department was driving the bike.

Some of Jahid's friends and other students took him to university medical centre then to Enam Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, JU VC met the agitated students and told them that university will bear the treatment costs of the injured student.

He also assured them that university authorities will take action within seven working days against the person who is responsible for the accident. He said he will instruct the security personnel to control the speed of the vehicles on the campus

In this regard, Proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan said he went to Enam Medical and saw the injured student. He said condition Jahid is now stable and university authorities will bear treatment cost of the student.
