3 to die for killing school teacher in Jhenidah

A court in Jhenidah on Wednesday sentenced three people to death and another to life imprisonment for killing a school teacher at Shailkupa upazila in the district in 2014.

Jhenidah District and Sessions Judge Md Nazimuddoula handed down the verdict this afternoon.
The condemned convicts are Rannu Khan, Jamal Khan and Kanu Khan. And the lifer is Shamsur Rahman Khan.

The court also fined the condemned convicts Tk 40,000 each and the lifer Tk 25,000.

Three other accused in the case were acquitted as the allegations brought against them were not proved.

According to the prosecution, school teacher Alauddin, a resident of Shitli village, was hacked to death by the convicts on September 7 in 2014 over a land dispute.

Shiuly Khatun, wife of the victim, filed a case with Shailkupa Police Station accusing seven people.

Later, police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court on February 26, 2015.
