Restaurant worker gets life term for raping school girl

A court in Dhaka sentenced a restaurant worker to life imprisonment for raping a school girl in Sabujbagh area in the capital in 2017.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Judge A M Zulfiqar Hayat passed the order on Thursday.
The convict is Raju Ahmed, a worker of a restaurant in the area. The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, convict Raju raped the girl several time in 2017 threatening to kill her.

A case was filed by the victim's mother accusing Raju on February 2 in 2018 after a doctor prescribed the girl as pregnant of eight months.

The court mentioned that the state will take responsibility of the child, who had bornt after the rape incident, till the age of 21.
