Petroleum price likely to see further cut

The prices of various petroleum fuels are likely to be lowered further in the next month, hinted State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid on Thursday.

While visiting a petrol pump in the city’s Shahbagh area, he said the government is considering further reducing the petroleum price by the next month. “We’ll try to make a decision in this regard within October,” he told reporters.

He said they are now looking into what impact the price reduction will bring on the transport sector. “The government wants a positive
impact so that the transport fare could come down.”

The government reduced the prices of different petroleum fuels on April 24 last. The price of petrol and octane was lowered by Tk 10 per litre to Tk 86 and Tk 89 per litre respectively.

The price of diesel and kerosene was cut by Tk 3 per litre to fix at Tk 65 per litre.

The move to lower the petroleum prices came against the backdrop of falling price of such products in the international market. The price of crude petroleum declined to $40 per barrel from $130.

Earlier, the price of furnace oil was refixed at Tk 42 per litre by lowering Tk 18 per litre.
